After you have learned the basic rules of simple Backgammon and are confident about the little tips and strategies that go a long way to help win a game or any tournaments, most of the players like to increase the thrill and excitement by risking some money. Though playing backgammon is basically for fun and enjoyment, but things can get very interesting as well as intense after two players mutually decide to play a game that has money on stake. One of the most important things, after you have become an advanced backgammon player and want to play for money is to learn bits and pieces of doubling cube.

Novice Backgammon players generally dont have any need for the doubling cube. But you can loose a lot of money if you are not aware of the proper usage of it. The doubling cube is basically a six sided cube with the numbers; two, four, eight, sixteen, thirty-two and sixty-four. An initial bet is usually made at the beginning of the game during advanced games involving money, with the cube sitting near the board. During the course of the game, any advanced backgammon players can take the cube and twice the wager. If at this stage, the other player refuses the doubling of the wager, the other player just loses the game.

Such a game involving money by amateur players can become very serious and intense. You can yourself imagine the stakes when they are raised to sixty-four on the doubling cube. Such high money obviously involves lot of risk and confidence for advanced backgammon players.

Advanced backgammon players have a lot of options in terms of backgammon games and the concept of doubling cube has helped a lot to increase the thrill and enthusiasm.
