Becoming a Better Backgammon Player

Do you often play backgammon against the same opponent? And do you usually play at the same level as your opponent and win the same number of matches as he does? Perhaps you'd like to know who the best backgammon player is?

If both players are neck and neck in most games, it can be difficult to conclusively find the better player. However, by using a simple statistical test, you can determine whether you are a better backgammon player than your opponent. You will need to play a pre-determined number of one-point games, for example, 100 backgammon games. If you play at the same standard as your opponent, there is a 2.5 percent likelihood that yo will win at least 60 games. This will prove that you are the better backgammon player.

If you are only slightly more skilled at backgammon than your opponent, this test may not accurately reflect the difference. On the other hand, if you are a substantially better backgammon player, this test will highlight your skills accordingly. You can also try analyzing your skills by using a sequential test. This means you can stop if either you or your opponent are ahead after 50 games out of 100.
