Bill Robertie and Backgammon for Serious Players

If Bill Robertie’s earlier book, Backgammon for Winners, was for the newcomer and the beginner, Backgammon for Serious Players is targeted at backgammon players who know the basics of the game and are keen to move to the intermediate level. Basically, Backgammon for Serious Players is kind of like the sequel to the earlier Backgammon for Winners.

Spread over 186 pages, this backgammon book by Robertie begins with a brief discussion on backgammon notations. Along with that, there is mention also of the major backgammon tournaments in the world today, and gives information on these tournaments. This is just the beginning, though. Once he has gone through these opening offerings, Robertie launches into the actual deal.

Being targeted at backgammon players who know the basics of the game, Backgammon for Serious Players puts forward five games that the author uses to explain the different moves and situations you can find yourself in during a backgammon game. This section is where the true value of the book lies, and where Bill’s knowledge about the game comes through to the reader.

As you go through Backgammon for Serious Players, you will find a range of backgammon concepts that you may not have known prior to reading the book. Though the illustrations are wrong at certain places, and despite the presence of typographic errors in the text, the book is able to put across the different scenarios for the reader very effectively. Look beyond the cosmetic and you will find enough tips and notes to help raise your game at least one notch higher.
