Blackjack Hand Ranks

Blackjack hand ranks are not like poker hand ranks. There are not a huge amount of specific hands that blackjack players try to obtain. This is because in blackjack you are only playing against the blackjack dealer so you simply have to have better blackjack hand ranks or set of cards than he does.

Blackjack cards are ranked by their number and face value. Cards numbered from 2 to 10 are worth their respective value in points. Therefore, a 4 card is worth 4 points, a 7 card is worth 7 points and so on. All face cards—Jacks, Queens and Kings—are worth 10 points. An Ace is worth either 1 point or 11 points. You get to choose which value you want to use for your Aces, depending on which value is more helpful to your game.

In order to determine blackjack hand ranks you simply add your cards together. If the first two cards you are dealt are the 3 of spades and 9 of diamonds your hand is worth 12 points. If you hit and the blackjack dealer gives you another card and it is a 9 then you have the maximum hand of 21 points. However, if you hit and receive a 10 then you go bust and lose at 22 points.

The best of the blackjack hand ranks in blackjack is “blackjack”. Blackjack consists of an Ace and another card worth 10 for a total of 21 from the initial deal. However, if the dealer also has blackjack then you don’t win.
