Surrendering and Doubling in Internet Blackjack

In a game of internet backgammon, a player’s two main choices are to hit, which is drawing another card, or to stand or to refuse another card. However, there is a third choice which some internet blackjack sites offer. This is known as surrender.

When a player surrenders, he folds his hand after his first two cards have been dealt and forfeits half the amount of his original blackjack wager. If he decides to draw a third card or split his hand, he no longer has the option of surrendering. Learning how to use the surrender rule wisely is an aspect of blackjack strategy. It needs to be studied in-depth and should only be used when a player is 75 percent likely to lose the blackjack game.

Doubling down in internet blackjack is another option that is only available when a player has two cards in his hand and has taken no further action in the blackjack game. Doubling down allows a player to double his bet and receive one additional card.

An example of when a player might choose to do this is when the dealer has one visible card of five and the player has a total of eleven. One extra card could push the player’s hand close to 21 and double the amount of his winnings. A player can also double down for an amount less than his original bet in internet blackjack but he cannot exceed this amount.
