The Important Role of the Blackjack Dealer

The blackjack dealer is an integral part of the game of blackjack. In fact, without a dealer the game of blackjack wouldn’t exist!

In the game of blackjack each player plays against the blackjack dealer, one on one. Many players can play at the same table but they are all playing solely against the dealer.

To begin the game, the blackjack dealer deals out the cards, two to each player. He places the cards face up on the table. However, he places only one of his cards face up and the other face down. In order to win the game a player must obtain a hand that is better than the hand of the dealer. Therefore, taking his own hand into account as well as the exposed card of the dealer each player decides whether he is satisfied with his hand or would like to ask the dealer to “hit” him with another card in order to increase the value of his hand. However, players need to be careful because taking another card could cause them to bust, causing the value of their hand to soar over the maximum of 21 points.

Once all of the players are done adjusting their blackjack hands the blackjack dealer exposes his face down card. If his hand is worth 17 or higher the dealer stays. If his hand is worth 16 or lower he must draw another card. If the dealer busts all of the players win. If he doesn’t bust then the winners are determined by those who have hands that are higher than the blackjack dealer and lower than or equal to 21.

As you can see there is no way the game of blackjack could exist without a dealer.
