The Role of the Blackjack Dealer

Without the blackjack dealer the game of blackjack could not exist. The blackjack dealer makes the game of blackjack—he handles the cards, his hand determines the winners and losers, he oversees the game to make sure everything goes smoothly and that the players are having fun.

In the game of blackjack the dealer deals out two cards to each player, placing them face up on the table. He deals himself two cards as well but places one card face up and one card face down. The objective of the game is for the players to beat the dealer’s hand without sending the value of their own hand over 21. In order to do this, players ask the blackjack dealer to hit them with additional cards to up the value of their hand. Once all of the players are happy with their hand and decide to stay the blackjack dealer flips over his face down card. If is hand is valued under 17 points then he deals himself and additional card. The dealer’s final hand is then compared to the hands of the players and the winners are determined.

As you can see, the dealer is an integral part of the blackjack game and without him the game could not exist.
