Choose a good quality backgammon board

The backgammon board is the central piece of equipment when playing backgammon. The quality of the board is essential when playing backgammon as it is the focus of play. It is not just where the action is. The board needs to be strong enough to ensure the best possible game is provided.

With a good quality backgammon board, the board itself is often built around the backgammon checkers that accompany it. The backgammon checkers have to be taken into consideration as the quality of the backgammon checkers mean changes in terms of the weight and width of the pieces. The size needs to be reflected in the size of the board points; when playing backgammon it is imperative that the pieces fit perfectly. The weight of the checker will also affect the material used for the surface of the backgammon board.

Another consideration with regards the backgammon board surface is the smoothness. When playing backgammon the backgammon checkers need to slide into position, and so the material must allow for this, whilst being matt enough to not let the checkers or the dice slide around and knock the checkers from their points.

The bar on a good backgammon checkers board will allow the checkers to sit comfortably in the bar area and there will be enough storage space around the board for the checkers to sit when not in play. The board will also allow all the pieces to be stored comfortable and securely inside, without being too heavy to transport. Consider there factors and then choose the board that you find most visually stimulating, just make sure you don’t make that your initial starting point.
