Choosing Backgammon dice size

Before a Backgammon player decides to begin building a quality Backgammon game board they are well advised to choose the size of their game pieces. This means that a player will have to choose the size of the checkers, as well as the size of the dice. If a player builds a board and then chooses a game piece size based on the size of the board, they may be in for a disappointing moment if they can’t find pieces that fit the board precisely. It is much easier to build a Backgammon game board around Backgammon game pieces than the other way around. Backgammon dice size is an item to be considered before starting out.

Many Backgammon supply stores sell Backgammon dice of varying sizes. This is a good place to start and there are the typical standard sizes. This is very useful when building a regulation size playing board. If a player decides to build a board that is an atypical size they may have to simply live with a slightly off Backgammon dice size, or fabricate their own Backgammon dice.

Backgammon dice size isn’t necessarily as crucial to effective game play as that of checker size. If a Backgammon checker isn’t sized to fit the board exactly it has the probability of effecting game play. However, if dice size isn’t exact it might simply appear a little awkward.

There are also other considerations to take into account when determining Backgammon dice size as well. One consideration is the size of the counting dots on the Backgammon dice. If a player is a little hard of seeing it may be beneficial to make the Backgammon dice with larger counting dots.
