How to paint the finish on your backgammon surface

Occasionally serious backgammon players will have to replace the surface of their backgammon boards. Due to moving the backgammon pieces roughly across the board or backgammon players’ finger nails chipping pieces of the backgammon surface, a backgammon surface can get damaged quite easily. Once you have replaced the surface of your board, you must ensure that your board receives a strong, shiny finish. This is done by painting with cork protector on your board.

It is imperative that you find a strong paint on cork protector for your board. Since many sandals have soles that are made of cork, you can buy a cork protector from a store that sells high-end sandals. This has been known to be quite a successful approach as long as you choose to paint the layers on one by one rather than use a spray on finish.

The more layers that you paint on the backgammon surface, the stronger your finish will be. Patience is the key here as the best way to ensure a successful backgammon repair is by applying a large number of cork protector coats. You need to wait about an hour or less in between coats and be sure to check that the surface is clean of dust and any other small obstructions before continuing to layer.

To ensure a good backgammon surface finish, it is highly recommended that each layer that you apply is not too thick. You want to avoid the finish being too dark or having ripples in the surface. Using a good quality paint brush with soft bristles that are about 1 ˝ inches long will ensure a much smoother, easier process.

You can try being experimental with your backgammon surface finish. There are other materials available that are used for furniture finish such as paste wax and mineral oils. You can consult with a furniture store about how to go about finishing your backgammon board with these materials, which may leave you with a more professional-looking finish.
