Learning about Backgammon Tournament board

Backgammon boards come in various sizes ranging from small to tournament size in different color and price variations. If you think you want to go in for a custom made backgammon board, then go in for a tournament board or full sized board. Some tournaments rules ban backgammon sets that are too small or too large.

All tournament rules require backgammon sets to include precision dice and lipped dicing cups to ensure fair game. In a tournament, you will be seeing a variety of tournament backgammon board.

Some backgammon sets have been made by the most professional craftsmen like Tak Morioka, Bob Palmley, Dal Negro and Robert Zavoral. They turn out to be expensive, but the pleasure of playing on a board of your taste surpasses the cost. You also get cheaper versions of the tournament board made from cork, denim etc.

The minimum size of a tournament board is 44 cm x 55 cm and the maximum size is 66 cm x 88 cm with a checker size of 44mm. If you have backgammon checkers that are smaller than 40mm, the fun is lost. Since all tournament size boards are properly proportioned, the backgammon checker size is important in determining overall board size.

All the good handcrafted custom boards are not all-wood as they tend to be noisy and dice don't fall and tumble while fabric is very smooth. If you want your tournament board to have a classy look, go in for brass hinges.
