How to be a Poker Bluffing Pro

As you are probably aware, the “poker face” is one of the best poker strategies around. Bluffing by putting on a sad or expressionless face when you have a fantastic poker hand or looking surprised when your hand is simply so-so can greatly increase your chances at winning at poker. However, if you want to succeed at poker bluffing you need to learn some basic poker bluffing ground rules.

The main rule of poker bluffing is don’t overdo it! Practice making genuine faces to use when you are bluffing. Jumping up from your seat and doing a victory lap around the room to indicate to your opponent’s that you have a “fantastic” poker hand is too much. Practice subtle hints such as raising your eyebrows or turning down the corners of your mouth. Looking continuously at your cards also indicates a good hand. If you aren’t a good actor do your best to keep on an emotionless poker face so that your opponent’s have no idea what kind of poker hand you’ve got.

If you are playing online poker then you have a whole other kind of bluffing to deal with. Because you can’t see your opponent’s faces online poker bluffing relies mostly on betting patterns. Making a large raise can falsely indicate a large hand while simply calling can falsely indicate a hand that is only so-so.

It is incredibly worthwhile to practice your bluffing skills because they can be your key to winning at poker.
