Playing No Limit Poker

No limit poker is, as it sounds, a game of poker with no limits placed on betting. In each game a player may bet as many of his chips as he wants and there is absolutely no limit.

In no limit poker games the amount of raises in each round is unlimited. As a result, the stakes of a poker game can rise to quite a large sum of money quite quickly. Therefore, if you want to participate in a no limit poker game you need to be sure that you have the money to spend (or that your poker game is absolutely flawless!). It hasn’t been unheard of that a poker player has gotten involved in a game with no betting limits and has bet much more than he could afford to lose. Some times it turns out for the best and the player wins big but more often than not the results area tragic. Therefore, if the stakes get to high for you then you may be forced to fold, even if you have a fantastic hand.

When you play no limit poker you will notice that usually a very large bet signifies a very good hand. There are, of course, players that will raise on a so-so hand in an attempt to bluff and fool the competition but usually a high raise means a good hand. If this occurs and you don’t have the opportunity of getting one of the highest hands—a royal flush or straight flush—then save yourself the money and fold.
