Recommended Texas Hold'em Strategies

For each poker game, there is a specific strategy. The following information will introduce Texas Hold'em strategies for novice players. These strategies should be used in combination at different stages in the Texas Hold'em game.

Some of the most useful Texas Hold'em strategies you need to know are those you will use at the pre-flop. If you are dealt a hand that features a pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings or Aces make sure you raise the bet. Also raise if you have any one of the above cards or two of these cards with a different value but the same suit.

Pairs of sevens, eights, nines and tens may be worth calling on during the game if the pot has reached a satisfactory size. However, if you feel the pot is too small to justify remaining in the poker game and you are unlikely to be able to manipulate your hand using Texas Hold'em strategies, you should fold with these cards. Any lower pairs should cause you to fold as well. After the flop, you should continue to play on if you have a top pair or another strong pair. Similarly, play on if you have a good chance of achieving a flush or a straight.

During the stages of the Texas Hold'em game known as the turn and the river, you should bet if you have a top pair or another strong card combination but fold if you do not. Use Texas Hold'em strategies to calculate pot odds to help you decide to fold or to play on. If the odds are favorable, play on. But if you calculate that you have a low chance of making up the winning poker hand, you are best advised to fold.
