Texas Poker Card Combinations

If you’re new to the Texas poker game Hold’Em poker, there’s no doubt that you’re having trouble memorizing the rank order of the winning hand combinations. Knowing if a Straight comes before or after a Flush is vital to playing a successful poker game. Without this knowledge, you may be raising the stakes on a hand that, based on the cards on the table, has no chance of winning. Start playing smartly by learning the card ranks today.

There are nine different winning card combinations in a standard Texas poker game. Each of these combinations has five cards that combine both shared community cards and a player’s private pocket cards. These card combinations are then ranked from highest to lowest. Combinations that are the hardest to get are ranked the highest; more common hands are ranked the lowest.

Here is the way that winning card combinations are ranked in Texas poker:

Straight Flush
Four of a Kind
Full House
Flush
Straight
Three of a Kind
Two Pair
One Pair
High Card

If two players happen to have the same winning hand combination in a Texas poker game, determining the winner depends on who has the highest cards in that hand. If two players are holding “one pair,” and Player A has 6-6 and Player B has 10-10, Player B is the winner.
